About Us

My Story
From the wonderful area of southwest Germany to the aspiring southwest Sydney which I now call home.
Growing up in the rural area around Heilbronn I was always out and about in hills, forests, fields and vineyards. The connection to nature was always present.
From early age on I helped my gradparents on their farm, in their vinyard and in the garden where they grew their own food. My grandparents farmed using conventional methods. While still in school I began to learn beekeeping and became a Certified Specialist for Produce and Garden.
After finishing school I completed an apprenticeship, and went to University in the nearby city of Stuttgart. Throughout all those years I kept up beekeeping and learned a lot about bees. Together with my father we always kepyt beehives on our land. During my years at Uni I learned about the negative impacts industrial farming has on bees. I saw the weakening of hives, bees not returning to their home and colonies simply collapsing.
Today I practise and advocate for natural and traditional beekeeping methods. I don’t feed sugar-syrup to my hives or use plastic frames. My beehives are painted with rapeseed oil and beeswax and I only harvest from naturally drawn honey combes. As pest controller I use integrated pest management IPM to find solutions without the use of chemicals. But when necessary I am trained and licensed to apply chemicals to treat for general pest.
Driven by values
I love beekeeping and the connection to nature through these wonderufl insects. Bees provide more than honey. All parts of the hive are beneficial – including even the air inside a beehive! Working with the bees is calming, inspirational and rejuvenating.
Teaching traditional beekeeping and following in the footsteps of my great-great grandfather Gottlob Schmautz is a personal urge.
And helping others to become beekeepers is wonderful. Teaching young children about the importance of bees is rewarding.
Becoming a pest controller was born out of necessity. During call-outs to remove bee- swarms I was often confronted with wasps or other pests. These pests required a professional pest controller and in becoming a pest controller myself I could help the client on the spot.
If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper, have a bee swarm or require a professional pest controller, I am here to help!
